How Sweet It Is... (Sweeteners vs Sugar)

As a degree qualified Nutritionist, I was very interested to read the following statement:

“A new guideline from the (WHO) on nonsugar sweeteners (NSSs) recommends not using them to control weight or reduce the risk for diabetes, heart disease, or cancer. These sweeteners include aspartame, acesulfame K, advantame, saccharine, sucralose, stevia, and stevia derivatives.”

The study also found that while there are some short-term benefits in a small reduction of both body weight and body mass index, these were not seen as a long-term benefit for adults or children.  In other words, no significant positive effects on sustained body fat loss are achieved.  It was reported that potentially long-term NSS use has an increased risk of type 2 diabetes & cardiovascular diseases.  The risk was also cautioned for pre-term births linked to the use of NSS.

So, it has long been my professional opinion that Non-Sugar sweeteners (eg Aspartame, etcetera) are best avoided by any of my clients who seek maximum sustainable long-term good health outcomes.  Although the harmful effects of NSS have been debatable for many years, it is heartening to see the evidence-based guidelines from WHO saying NOT to use NSS for weight loss.  This is not the last we will see in these discussions, and the outcome from WHO is to keep within the sugar guidelines, and eat clean and healthy (avoid artificial sweeteners) for long-term better health. At Dolce Organico, we use the best quality Australian Raw Organic Sugar in our delicious guilt free meringues giving them a natural clean sweetness that only sugar can provide.  The best news on our meringues is that a serve of 3 meringues only contains 1 teaspoon of sugar; this allows our product to easily fit within the daily recommended allowance of 12 tsp per day or 50g (for a healthy adult).  This figure includes all sugars in processed foods, too, so eat clean to stay within the healthy limit. (e.g. one can of Coke, by comparison, contains 10 tsp of sugar ouch!)

With our large variety of flavours, we believe that there is one (or more) flavours that will tempt your tastebuds and still be healthy to enjoy.

Along with the benefits of being, gluten-free, egg-free, dairy-free, organic & containing no Artificial Colours and vegan friendly makes our sweet meringues the perfect guilt free treat.
